Are You Looking for the Perfect Room Air Purifier?

    [FEATURE_IMAGE_INSERT]

Are you planning to buy a top air purifier but you don’t know where to start?

If so, this guide will help you navigate through the world of choosing a room air purifier

They say nothing is as essential to your health as clean fresh air.

    But where to start?

    However,

With the real estate market investing in buildings designed to be increasingly airtight and energy-efficient, indoor contaminants are becoming an increasing problem in homes.

These impurities include things like cigarette smoke, dust, chemical fumes, pollen, mould spores, allergens, pet dander, bacteria, and viruses.

    It gets worse…

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), indoor air is more susceptible to pollution than the outdoors, even in urban areas.

With many people spending much of their time indoors, the health risks of indoor air pollution are a significant issue and an air purifier seems like the best solution.

That said, how can you ensure that you get the perfect air purifier to combat these issues? I’m going to tell you how in a minute.

    But first…

    What's an Air Purifier

    Just What’s an Air Purifier?

An air purifier or air cleaner is an electronic device that draws in the air of a room.

Pulling it through an effective system of filters that capture airborne pollutants before blowing out fresh, crisp, and clean air back into your living space.

    Now:

When you’re out shopping for an air purifier system, you need to ensure that you check the rating for room size, usually indicated on the package.

Ideally, you should opt for an air unit that can handle a room slightly larger than the one you will be using it in.

    Types of Filters

The Different Types of Filters You’ll Find

There are several types of air filters that vary in the kinds of screens and how they get rid of airborne contaminants.

Most air purifier models combine filter types for maximum results and high performance.

Some of the most common filters air purifiers feature include:

    #1. The Activated Carbon Filter

This filter is perfect for removing smoke, gases, and odours from a room.

However, it does very little when it comes to dust and allergens.

Most air purifier systems use the activated carbon for odour control, while using another type of filter for particles.

Moreover, carbon filters need periodic replacement and so can be costly.

    #2. The HEPA Filter

The well-known high-efficiency particulate air filter is able to get rid of 99% of airborne particles measuring 0.3 microns1  or more in the air.

Meaning that dust, mould spores, pollen, dander, and most bacteria can’t pass through the filter.

The best hepa filters are proven to be perfect for those with allergies or respiratory conditions and are the most sought-after type of air purifiers.

But there’s something you should keep in mind with this filter:

While some HEPA air purifiers claim to have a “long-lasting” filter that only requires occasional vacuuming, in reality, it’s very challenging to vacuum the screen thoroughly.

More often than not, you need to make sure that you replace the HEPA filters periodically – anywhere from a few months to once a year, depending on how often you use it.

    #3. The Pre-filter

Most air purifying systems use the pre-filter to trap the biggest particles in the air before they reach the primary filter.

Having the pre-filter saves your air purifier’s more expensive primary filter from wear and tear, meaning you won’t have to change it as often.

    #4. Electrostatic Filter

This one works by pulling air through an electronic field, forming an electrical charge that captures particles on a charged metal plate.

It’s not very efficient in trapping bacteria, but it’s one of the most reliable filters for dust, certain gases, odors, and for soothing allergy discomfort.

    Nevertheless…

Unlike its counterparts, the electrostatic collection plates require periodic cleaning, but there are no filters to replace, thus saving your pockets.

    #5. Ionizer

Most air purifier manufactures recommend that you use an ionizer in conjunction with a filtered device.

It discharges electrons into the air, which attract dust and other particles.

These massive “clumps” of particulate matter are more stress-free for your air purifying system’s filter to capture.

Nevertheless, these particulates can also fall onto your carpet, fabric, or upholstery.

    On the other hand…

Some ionizers also emit ozone2 , which is irritating to your lungs and can lead to asthma, especially in people susceptible to respiratory conditions.

Ozone is also dangerous to pet birds or other small pets.

    Is Space a Problem

    Is Space A Problem?

Are you stuck trying to get the perfect air purifier for your room size?

Well, when trying to get the best air purifier for your specific room size, the first step you need to take is to figure out how much space you want your device to clean.

Small desktop devices aren’t efficient in large-sized rooms, while heavy-duty purifiers might be overkill in your kid’s bedroom.

    In my own experience,

One of the best ways to get the perfect fit is to look at the “air changes per hour” specs on an air purifier.

This can help you understand how filtration works, while also giving you an idea of how the system will work in a room of a particular size.

If after checking this spec you’re still not sure what type of air purifier will be best for the size of your room, then it’s advisable to get a bigger purifier unit than what you think you’ll need, as long as it’s within your budget.

    What About Pets

    What about Pets?

If you share your home with furry friends, then you’ll know that even though Meatball and Rex are good company to have around, they can be a significant source of pungent pet odour, dander, bacteria, and dirt in your living spaces.

This is especially a problem if pet dander sets of allergies. Read about the best air purifiers for people with cat allergies.

But wait, let me tell you something:

There are specific air purifiers perfect for tackling these kinds of problems, like the IQAir Health Pro Plus which offers you up to 25% cleaner air.

It also features HyperHEPA technology that traps particles of all sizes from pet dander, viruses, dust mites, and cigarette smoke.

It’s also effective in rooms of almost all sizes, thus making it an ideal option.

    Best of all…

There are plenty of other incredible options, so take a look at this pick of the best air purifiers and get yourself one that will have you living your best life with your furry companions.

    In Short:

As most home-owners and real estate developers are moving to construct more energy-efficient3  homes, some things are bound to change.

The electric bills will go down, but discomfort due to indoor pollution will rise.

By investing in a reliable air purifier, you’ll enjoy clean and crisp air while also saving your pockets from hospital bills.

  • Do You Need to Clean Your Air Purifier Filter?

Do You Need to Clean Your Air Purifier Filter?

    [FEATURE_IMAGE_INSERT]

Indoor air pollution is an issue every home struggles with.

Since 1970, and with air pollution becoming a global concern, most homes have implemented tighter measures to help them conserve energy and improve their air quality.

    But where to start?

One of these vital measures is by investing in a reliable air purifier with cleanable or replaceable air filters. Make sure you know how to clean an air filter.

    It’s true!

Air filters are incredible at trapping dust, pet dander, and other pollutants that trigger allergies and cause permanent harm to your respiratory system.

Most homes today have several devices and systems that use air filters. One of these appliances is the HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system).

There are also the individual room heating and air systems, air purifiers, humidifiers, dehumidifiers, window air conditioners, oil diffusers, clothes dryers, vacuum cleaners, and a range of goods that feature air filters that you need to clean or replace often.

You might still be wondering, though…

How often should I clean my air filters to ensure that my indoor air quality is up to standard?

    Cleaning Air Filter

    Cleaning Air Filters

How Often Should You Clean Air Filters?

According to experts, you need to clean or replace your air filters on a routine schedule. Most HVAC1  air filters need cleaning or replacement every two to three months.

If you, however, live in dust-prone areas or with your pets, then you need to clean your filters regularly.

    Here’s a trick:

A simple way to tell if your air filters of any appliance require cleaning is by removing it from its location.

You can then hold the filter up to a brightly lit window, and if you see the light coming through, you can use it for a bit longer.

If no light comes through, then you need to clean your filter or replace it.

Do You Need to Clean or Replace Your Air Filters?

When should one replace the filter or entirely replace the air purifier or HVAC system?

There are some dirty air filters that you can easily clean and return to the appliance, but there are some that cannot stand up to cleaning, and you need to replace them with a new filter.

How can you decide what action is most appropriate?

Well, let me tell you something….

The market consists of a variety of air filter models.

How does the ionizer in an air purifier function?

There are the disposable air filters designed for one-time use and they’re usually less costly than the washable air filters.

Their frame is typically made of cardboard that won’t stand up to cleaning.

Trying to clean a disposable filter will cause mating of the fibres, thus encouraging mould and mildew to grow, which will automatically reduce the effectiveness of your air filtration system.

Washable filters, on the other hand, feature metal, and plastic frames and are more eco-friendly2 . They, however, take more effort to maintain.

    Therefore…

Owing to these facts, the best way you can determine what type of filter you can use is by consulting an appliance manual.

It will walk you through how to clean or replace the filters and also give you suggestions on the schedule for changing or replacing filters so that your appliance can maintain optimum performance.

    On the other hand,

If you don’t have the manual, then you can always consult the manufacturer’s website, which will provide you with advice on cleaning and replacement filters.

How to Clean a Washable Air Filter Effectively

    #1. Turn the Appliance Off

Before you start the process of cleaning your air filter, ensure that the air purifier or HVA system is off.

For small appliances, it’s recommended that you unplug the system to avoid any potential for electrical shock.

If you leave your air purifier running when cleaning or replacing the air filter, it’ll draw excess dust into the fan and motor.

    #2. Open the Filter’s Cover

Most air filter covers have latches that you can open to access the filter.

However, some are attached with screws that you’ll need to remove with a screwdriver.

Therefore, you need to ensure that you have your screwdriver closeby and that you put the screws in a secure place. If you’re working on an overhead HVAC system, use a robust stepladder.

    #3. Take the Filter Outside

If the weather allows it, take the filter outside to start the cleaning process.

Tap it lightly to get rid of any loose dust. You can use the brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner hose to clean both sides of the filter meticulously.

    #4. Dust It

Since you have removed the bulk of the dust, move to a sink and hold the air filter under some warm water or try using the water spritzer to get rid of smaller dust particles.

You can start at one side and work your way down the filer to ensure the dirty water runs off it and doesn’t deposit on the air filter.

    #5. Wash Away the Grime

After examining the air filter and it looks dirty or feels sticky, make sure you mix a solution of warm water and a few drops of liquid dish washing soap.

You can try to dip the sponge or soft brush into the solution and thoroughly clean the filter. When all is done, rinse the filter thoroughly to get rid of any soapy residue.

    #6. Dry the Filter

After you’ve washed away all the grime, you need to ensure that you completely dry the filter with a soft and dry cloth/towel before reinserting it into your air purifier.

If it’s possible, place your air filter outside or in front of a fan to make sure that it’s completely dry before reinserting it.

As you wait for it to dry, you can clean the appliance or vent opening where you took out the air filter to eliminate any dust particles or cobwebs.

    #7. Change the Filter

When you’re done, and the filter is clean, make sure you replace it into the appliance or vent.

You should also remember to latch the opening safely and turn the air purifier or HVAC system back on.

As scientists and eco-friendly companies try to figure out more effective ways to rid the environment of pollutants3.

Ultimately, you need to be vigilant and take care of the only option you have right now – you air purifier systems.

By cleaning and taking care of your air filter regularly, you can be a step closer to kicking out those allergies!

  • How Do Ionizer Air Purifiers ACTUALLY Work?

How Do Ionizer Air Purifiers ACTUALLY Work?

    [FEATURE_IMAGE_INSERT]

According to reports by the National Institute of Environmental Health Science, poor indoor air quality is one of the most significant public health concerns.

With the average person spending about 90% of their time indoors, taking the right steps to aid in the goal of improving the air quality in your home can offer you significant health benefits.

    But where to start?

So now the question is: How does an ionizer air purifier work?

    Let me tell you something…

Ionisers and other electronic cleaning appliances provide you with an effective solution for getting rid of contaminants from the air.

Still, you must select your device with care to avoid any potential issues and health risks.

    That said,

When you’re out shopping for a quality air purifier, you often have the option of choosing a model that features an ioniser.

An in-built independent ioniser helps with airborne particulates and helps in cleaning the air in your haven of comfort more efficiently, thus allowing you to breathe easier.

    However, for the perfect outcome

You need to ensure that you vacuum and dust your home frequently.

You also have to ensure that you change the HEPA filter often enough so that the ioniser’s usefulness isn’t hampered.

Monitoring your filters is quite easy if you are using smart air purifiers like the Airmega.

So, how does an ioniser work?

How an Ioniser Helps in Cleaning the Air

Can Air Purifiers Help With My Allergies?

Ionisers work because of the electrical effects of the negative and positive charges which are attracted to each other.

When your air purifier’s ionizer is on, the voltage is applied to a series of in-built needles, thus forming electrons1  which are discharged into the atmosphere.

When these electrons attach to the air molecules, then the negatively-charged ions are created.

These negatively-charged ions are then expelled into your home where they attach to the positively-charged dust particles, pollen, smoke, mould spores, and pet dander to create larger particulates.

    Want to know more?

Large particles are easily trapped by your air purifier’s filters, thus making this process vital.

After they’re captured, the particles can then descend to the floor for vacuuming.

They may also attach to positively charged surfaces in your home and the grill of your air purifying system, making dusting your air system frequently a necessity.

    Ionizer Air Purifier

    The HEPA Filter

If you have a HEPA filter and it needs cleaning or is close to the end of its lifespan, you find out that these pollutants aren’t filtered and frequently return to your room.

Due to that, you must make sure that you turn off the ioniser until you replace the filter.

    Now…

If your house has more than the standard amount of allergens like pet dander or cigarette smoke, the typical lifespan of a HEPA filter can be significantly reduced.

    What if You Have Pets?

If you love pets and co-habit with them, you need to make sure you replace your air filters monthly, if not more.

Be sure to check your air purifier’s operation manual for any recommendations on how often you need to change out your filters.

Still, you need to remember that these instructions are based on the standard home air quality and may not take pets into account.

    Ionic Air Purifier

Cleans Your Air in Positive Ways

Some people could argue that an ioniser air purifier also cleans your air positively and more healthily than most air cleaning systems.

Negative ions2  are present in the atmosphere where the atmosphere’s stirred up, especially around waterfalls, rivers, ocean surf, and mountains.

Imagine how good it feels to breathe close to a waterfall. The air is fresh and feels goods on you. It’s energising, right?

It’s like the air right after a rainfall.

Well, let me tell you something:

Most people believe that negative ions stimulate wellness when there are more negative ions than positive ones in your environment.

The concept is, of course, not scientifically proven, and it has mostly remained a wellness strategy.

    Ionizer

Air Purifiers and Fans with Ionisers

There are some air purifiers and fans that feature ionisers, thus giving you excellent service while also saving your pockets.

You can also get ionisers as individual air quality systems, and they’re included as in-built features in some air circulating fans.

One of these incredible air circulating fan is the Lasko 2551 Wind Curve Platinum Tower Fan.

It helps your fan freshen your environment as it recirculates it around your home to help make you more comfortable and breathe easier.

  • Is It Worth Buying An Air Purifier To Help Control Allergies?

Is It Worth Buying An Air Purifier To Help Control Allergies?

    [FEATURE_IMAGE_INSERT]

In this day and age, you can walk into almost any store or supermarket and see all sorts and brands of the best air purifiers for allergies on sale.

    But where to start?

But can air purifiers really help allergies though?

There are the huge ones that look like industrial machinery, high-tech ones with LED lights and digital displays, and the little ones that you can basically wear around your neck.  And the claims they make!

    • Kills dust mites1
    • Obliterates mould spores2
    • Zaps viruses
    • HEPA for life

    To add to that,

Some even have catchy slogans like I slice, slay, and dice.

Well, that last part might be a bit exaggerated, but all in all, with so many brands and types of air cleaners in the market, it means that they must be doing some good.  Right?

However, with the confusing brands and some very negative reviews, you might wonder if it’s really worth purchasing an air purifier? Will it help your allergies?

    It’s true…

And my simple answer is, it depends. An air purification system can aid your allergies if you have environmental allergies, and you have the proper type of system for the size of the area you need to use it in.

That said, here’s why buying an air purifier is worth it, especially if you want to kick out your allergies:

    Pollen

#01. It Gets Rid of Household Odours

You might have guests from time to time, and some even come without prior notice.

It becomes very awkward to handle everything along with the household odours that linger around. That pungent food odour becomes downright disconcerting for the entire family.

An air cleaner aids in getting rid of any smell that may remain in the air for too long. Alongside it helps eliminate any pungent smell that makes you uncomfortable around your guests.

#02. It Helps Control All the Allergens Lurking Around Your Sanctuary

Well, this is where the slice and dice slogan comes in handy.

If you’re allergic to pollen, dust mites, or even pet dander, or you have those seasonal allergies, an air purifier might offer you some help.

However, there are more effective ways to get relief from seasonal allergies.

    Think about it…

Indoor allergens float on the air, fall, and stick to your upholstery.

As you move around a room, run a fan, sit down or get up from your favourite couch, pick things up and set them down I send settled allergens back into the air to circulate and fall again. It’s the circle of life.

    Pollen on Plant

#03. They Help Reduce Dust Accumulation in Your Home

One of the most common ways to ensure that your air purifier system is working is when there’s going to be a much lesser build-up of dust in your manor even when you haven’t dusted for several days.

    It’s true…

People feel relieved after the purchase of an air purification system and think that their life has enriched significantly.

Nonetheless, there are some myths associated with the air cleaning system that you must know before you purchase it for your home:

After Installing the Air Purifier for dust mites, You Might Never Have to Dust Your House Again – an air purifier only assists in decreasing the number of airborne dust particles.3

It can’t lift off dust particles from your furniture or upholstery and go on to provide you with the ease off never dusting again.

It’s your job to dust often because if the air purifier system starts fanning off the dirt, a dust storm will begin at your home.

    Cat and Pollen

Air Purifier is the Cure for All Your Allergies and Kills All Germs and Allergens – an air purifier device can only control your allergies.

However, few of the allergens like pollen are heavy, and before the air purification system can catch them, they fall to the floor or on your expensive furniture.

That said, handy air purifiers are entirely worth buying for anybody and everybody who has an issue with dust particles and allergens. So stop thinking about whether it’s worth it or not and get yourself one today.

    Common Questions

    [CUSTOM_FAQ]

    In Conclusion

The method of having an air purifier can definitely help with your allergies, however, it won’t cure them for the rest of your life.

  • Can Air Purifiers REALLY Kill Dust Mites?

Can Air Purifiers REALLY Kill Dust Mites?

    [FEATURE_IMAGE_INSERT]

One of the most common causes of allergies is dust mites, which are a big problem for many people.

If you’re seeking relief, there are several choices available, and some include natural remedies that can treat surfaces like your bed and fabric.

    But where to start?

    Nevertheless

There’s still the issue of lingering airborne particles1 they produce.

So, can air purifiers kill dust mites?

    The simple answer is yes.

    What are Dust Mites?

Dust mites look like translucent or almost white bugs.

As they have eight legs, they’re similar to spiders and are classed not as insects but as arthropods.

Most of them measure about 1/4 to 1/3 of a millimetre, meaning they’re far too miniature to see with without a microscope.

    It turns out…

One reason they thrive so well in your homes is because of the indoor temperatures.

They thrive at ranges of about 68 to 77 degrees Fahrenheit (20-25 degrees Celsius), and they especially love humidity levels of around 70-80%.

    Allergic Reaction

Most dust mites2 feed on the tiny fragments of skin that humans and your pets produce daily.

These skin particles end up between threads and deep within layers of your most treasured furniture, your bed, carpets, and even stuffed toys and clothing.

    Keep in mind…

It’s crucial to replace the filter after some time to restore the filtering ability after a large amount of mite matter has been captured.

For the tiny size, they’re hard to deal with, and many things won’t have any effect, either.

    Here’s why:

The primary matter lies in the microscopic sizes of the dust mites’ bodies and fecal matter, which is the principal allergen source.

Recent studies have shown sizes ranging from 5 to 40 micrometers (or sometimes called “microns”).

No sprays, deodorisers, or fans can aid with that–you’ll always have that issue until they’re dealt with properly.

The other is that even if you kill the dust mite population, allergens3  still remain and will continue to cause allergies in people in the home.

    Surface Wiping

How Can an Air Purifier Help?

Well, most air purifiers work by pulling air through a series of filter sections using a small fan.

As the air in your sanctuary circulates, they reduce dust mite issues by filtering and trapping these mite allergens if you know how to clean an air filter.

Want to know more? Read our reviews on air purifiers!

To do so, you need a filter capable of trapping particles as tiny as five as microns as mentioned earlier.

The industry standard is the High-Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filter. These are a standardized type of screen which must meet the following requirements:

They must filter and trap elements as minute as 0.3 microns.

The screen must capture 99.97% of all particles in the air that moves through the filter.

It means if, over time that air containing 10,000 particles and substances moves into the screen, only three will escape! That’s an extraordinary amount of filtration.

    Important to note though:

It’s critical to replace the filter after some time to restore the filtering ability after a large amount of mite matter has been trapped.

    Unclean Surface

    Let me tell you more…

A True HEPA filter, on the other hand, would be your best bet, but it must meet these requirements.

Hence, as you can see, it’s critical to have one that meets these criteria to reduce your allergy suffering.

Note also that normally, most are also bundled with or attached to 2 other filter sections: one for filter more abundant elements (like air, larger dust particles, and so on) and a carbon filter which traps chemical substances such as odour-causing chemicals or organic chemical matter.

    And here’s the truth:

Dust mite allergens will no longer be an issue in your home in this case!

    Common Questions

    [CUSTOM_FAQ]

    In Conclusion

It isn’t good for your health to have dust mites around.

But with an air purifier that can kill dust mites, you won’t have to worry about your health anymore!

  • Do You Want to Know Which Air Purifier Is Better Between an Ionic & a HEPA?

Do You Want to Know Which Air Purifier Is Better Between an Ionic & a HEPA?

    [FEATURE_IMAGE_INSERT]

The debate between Ionic vs HEPA air purifiers is ongoing.

Theoretically, both the HEPA and Ionic air purifiers serve the same purpose; to give you fresh and allergen-free air.

    But where to start?

Their design methodologies differ from one another considering the approach they use.

    Here’s how:

Ionic purifiers are classified into two types of air purifiers. There are electrostatic precipitators and air ionizers.

In both cases, these are “filter-less” air cleansers. They’re also known as electronic air cleaners.

Electrostatic precipitators feature positive and negative charged plates.

Particulates collect on the plates as they pass through the air cleaner. Instead of having to substitute the filter, you have to wash or clean the plates.

The filter-less air purifiers don’t remove the particulates effectively. They don’t do the best job in removing the smallest, most dangerous particles.

These are the particles that float in the air for hours or days and can be breathed deep into your lungs.

    On the other hand

Electrostatic precipitators perform best when the plates are clean. Yet, even at that point, they’re not as good as the HEPA filter.1

To make matters worse, when the plates become dirty, the performance degrades further.

It’s common for ozone to be generated as a by-product of the charged plates. Ozone is considered indoor air pollution.

    Therefore:

If you have complications with your system like emphysema or asthma, ozone can be a massive problem.

Room air purifiers are now tested to meet ozone requirements.

As a result, there’s been a substantial shift away from electrostatic precipitators to HEPA filter air purifiers.

It’s somewhat challenging even to find an ozone generating purifier now.

    Clean Filter

However, in as much as they’re troublesome, these types of ionic purifiers work best in commercialized industries.

    On the other hand…

The air ionizers feature an ionizer that’s integrated with the negative ion generator.

The negatively ionised generator manufactures a stream of negatively charged ions that go on to draw the positive allergens and dirt particles in the atmosphere.

    Therefore,

This charge affects their ability to flow, and in the long run, it’s eradicated from the air that enters your home.

Since the dust particles gain a positive charge, they find themselves attracted to surfaces your floor or wall surfaces.

Let’s dive right into the air purifier comparison of Ionic VS HEPA Air Purifiers!

    Ionic Purifiers

If you’re looking for an inexpensive way to clear the smoke particles that fill up your room and house, then the ionic purifier is the best bet based on our air purifier reviews.

    However

It isn’t the absolute way to make sure you have completely eradicated all the dust and pollen.3

It also produces ozone as a by-product, which is a concern for your health. Indoor plants can also be used to purify the air.

The ozone gas can cause lung damage, can start up severe asthma attacks, and even cause death.

    Inside Mechanism

    Advantages

    • They get rid of very fine particles (about 0.01 microns).
    • They help decontaminate your home from bacteria, smoke, viruses, and other toxins.
    • They don’t produce any noise because they don’t run on fans or motors.

    Disadvantages of Ionic Purifiers

    • They produce Ozone as a by-product, a gas that can have adverse effects on your health.
    • They don’t completely get rid of bad odours.
    • They work well in the removal of particles from the air, but they don’t eliminate it from the room.

    HEPA Air Purifiers

The High-Efficiency Particulate Air Purifiers are purification technology productions that were used back in the day.

To remove radioactive pollutants to protect the soldier’s respiratory system in World War II.

I now apply these systems in my households to make sure I have 99.97% pollutants free air.

HEPA air purifiers, unlike most air purification systems, have the capability of trapping very minute pollutants (up to 0.3 microns).

    Here’s the best part:

They’re especially perfect for patients with allergic reactions to most allergens like pollen and dust. Such contaminants with the size of about 0.5 microns usually bring about instability in the body’s defence system.

Most medical professionals recommend HEPA to their patients because of their reliability in removing contaminants down to the microscopic level.

    Filtration Test

    Advantages

    • They possess high efficiency in the eradication of pollen, dust, mould spores, dust mites, and other allergens.
    • When the solid particles are captured, the HEPA filters don’t launch them back into the air.

    Disadvantages

    • Without an additional filter, these air purifiers don’t remove chemicals, fumes, and cigarette smoke from the air.
    • They aren’t instrumental in capturing microscopic viruses.

These two systems help you give your home that fresh, crisp, and allergen-free atmosphere you need to enjoy every minute spent in your sanctuary.

However, HEPA air purifiers tend to be very reliable since their performance is constant as compared to its ionic counterpart, whose performance rapidly drops.

It’s due to the fact that ionic air purifiers use magnetism in its operation.

  • Do You Know the Best Place to Put Your Air Purifier?

Do You Know the Best Place to Put Your Air Purifier?

    [FEATURE_IMAGE_INSERT]

The correct placement of your air purifier is one of the best ways to protect your family from bacteria and allergens.

    But where to start?

Let’s look at some of the things to consider to get the best possible placement for your air purifier.

Avoid Putting The Air Purifier In A Corner

One of the biggest mistakes that people make is putting their air purifier into a corner.

These units are often designed to have some space around the side of them.

This gives them the area they need to suck in the air and clean it properly.

In most cases, you’ll need to leave at least 30 inches on all sides of the device.

You also want to avoid placing the purifier into an area where the top of the device will be boxed in.

This can also impede airflow, making it harder for the device to function properly.  To get better airflow, you’ll need to raise the device off the ground.

As a result, it’s often best to try and place the air purifier on a table or bench.

When you do this, you’ll need to make sure that the face of the air purifier is facing towards the center of the room.

Don’t Put Them Near A Window

Another common mistake that people make it putting the air purifier near an open window.

The purifier will need to work overtime, trying to clean all the air as it comes into the house.

Instead, you’ll get the best results by closing the window. This will allow the purifier to work through all the air in the room, removing impurities.

    Consider The Coverage

One of the most important aspects to look at when deciding where to put the air purifier is the amount of coverage that you’ll be able to get.

In most cases, you’ll be able to find this information in the product specifications.

The coverage-area should be roughly equal to the size of the room that you want to place the purifier in.

It’s usually OK if the room is a little bigger than the coverage-area listed in the product specifications.

Because of this, you’ll often need to have multiple air purifiers, one for each room of the house.

If this is too expensive, you can get one and take it with you from room to room.

Alternatively, you can get a larger system that’ll purify the entire house.

    The Type Of Air Purifier

Another aspect to consider is the type of air purifier you have.

The way that the device operates can often influence the best place to put it.

To help you with this aspect, let’s take a closer look at some of the most popular types of purifiers on the market and how they work.

Firstly, you have ionizers and ozone.

These machines produce molecules, which they release into the room. These substances will attract allergens and pollutants.

As they do, the molecule will sink to the floor, removing the pollutant from the atmosphere.

Another popular type of air purifier is those that use filters. There are many types of these on the market.

For example, you might want to get one that relies on a HEPA filter, or a model that uses a carbon filter.

These devices work by sucking air into the device. Any pollutants will then get trapped in the purifier.

Finally, you might have a UV air purifier. These also suck the air into the device.

However, instead of trapping them in a filter, the machine will zap them with a UV light.

This will kill any bacteria that might have been growing in the air. In some cases, they might also have a filter, to catch any dirt and dead bacteria.

The right type of filter for you will depend on what you want to use it for.

For example, some people might not like the ozone purifiers, because it can make it harder to breathe, particularly if you have a condition like asthma.

On the other hand, some people might not like having to change the filters frequently.

If you’re struggling to narrow down your options, you might want to use this Air Purifier Comparison buying guide.

Avoid Areas That Have A Lot Of Moisture

You might also want to try to consider the amount of moisture in the room.

In some cases, you might have a humidifier in the room, to stop your skin from drying out. While you won’t need to turn it off, you might want to put the air purifier on the other side of the room.

This is especially important if you have a purifier that relies on filters.

Trapping in the moisture can often reduce the lifespan of the filters, so you’ll need to change them more frequently.

In some cases, this might also impact the electronics in the device, reducing the overall lifespan.

    Think About Where You’ll Be

Another important consideration is where you’ll be. Ideally, you want to try to put the purifier close to you.

This ensures that the air you’ll be breathing in will be clean. For example, in the bedroom, you want to put the purifier near the bed.

Alternatively, if you have a home office, you can put the device next to your desk.

Turn It Off When Not In Use

Finally, you should make sure that you’re turning the device off when it’s not in use.

This can be a great way to reduce how often you’ll need to replace the filter.

It will also reduce the amount that you’ll be paying on your power bill.

And I Would Walk 500 Miles

So, the day has come to move house, and the new house you’re moving to is old.

    How does this affect you?

Well, many materials and furnishings that go into a newly constructed home give off small amounts of chemicals, continuing to do so into the future as well—not even mentioning old homes!

You’ll definitely want an air cleaner present before you move in as well as while you’re moving in.

    Let me tell you:

You don’t want to be breathing in someone else’s dust particles and dirty air, do you?

In the past, homes were more porous and allowed for more natural ventilation.

However, the dust that goes into the air while moving furniture out can be dangerous to your health.

    Now:

Newly built homes are air-tight, which allows more air pollution to be trapped inside them, so you’ll also need an air cleaner for that type of air.

    Working From Home

    Top 10 Air Purifier Features

    Air purifiers have many features.

Have a look at the top 10 list:

    Helps You Sleep Better

According to a study conducted at the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health4, people who live in homes with high levels of particles that are too small to see on an optical microscope had difficulty falling asleep, felt tired during the day, were irritable, or depressed when they woke up in the morning.

With this information now available, you might install an air purifier so it will be easier for you to achieve quality restful sleep every night, which will then help you feel more energized throughout the day.

    Makes You Look Younger

The air that I breathe indoors is often more polluted than outside.

This means you could breathe in toxins and pollutants without even realizing it.

Your skin will show the effects of this exposure too, which can make you look older.

    Get this…

If you have an indoor air purifier, these pollutants won’t accumulate on your furniture or dry out your skin, which will help you look younger.

The air purifiers will also reduce the risk of toxins entering your lungs and bloodstream.

    Improves Your Mood

Research has shown that the air particles in your home can affect your mood.

The study mentioned above at NIOSH5 found that people without allergies were more likely to be depressed, irritable or anxious and less able to function for a full day when they had higher levels of fine particulate matter indoors than those with lower exposures.

    In short…

If you are not one of the lucky few that has escaped being affected by indoor air pollution, then a quality air purifier can help improve your mood.

Just in case depressive tendencies haven’t convinced you yet, research also shows that people with allergies or asthma who breathe cleaner indoor air have higher self-esteem and social support levels than those without an indoor air filter.

    Avoid Mold From Your Home

The air in your home is hotter and can hold more moisture than outside.

This combination makes it a perfect place for mold to grow.

This leads to serious health concerns such as asthma or allergies6 from the spores released into your living space when you disturb them.

    In other words

An indoor air purifier will keep dust particles at bay and help prevent mold growth, by stopping airborne bacteria around furniture, walls, and floors from entering the moist hot environment of your home where they thrive, which will help keep you healthy.

    Keeps Your Furniture Cleaner

Dust, pet hair, and dirt are just a few of the things that can accumulate on your furniture.

With each new item carried into your home by family members or friends comes even more debris to add to that list.

But an indoor air purifier can reduce these particles in your home from becoming airborne again, so they don’t get tracked around all day long.

This means when it’s finally time for a deep clean, there will be less work, and your furniture will stay cleaner for longer.

    Allows for Safer Pregnancy

A study by the Environmental Protection Agency found that exposure to certain pollutants during pregnancy can lead to developmental delays in children.

Another recent research study from Rutgers University7 and Nationwide Children’s Hospital found mothers-to-be who live near busy roads, are more likely than other pregnant women to give birth prematurely or have a low-birth-weight baby.

    In short…

If you’re on your way to starting a family, then an indoor air purifier is one investment worth making.

It will help improve not only your health but also the prenatal environment for both you and your child, which could ultimately make them healthier too.

    Makes Your Home Office Safer

If you work from home, an indoor air purifier can help improve your productivity and reduce the likelihood of catching a cold.

Studies have shown that people exposed to higher levels of chemicals indoors during their day at work are more likely to get sick or visit the doctor than those with cleaner air.

Make sure you have a reliable air purifier in your home office, and when it’s time to work from the couch or living room, make sure that there is one close by too.

You’ll be able to work all day productively while still getting better quality sleep at night.

Help Keep You at a Healthy Weight

If you have a healthy diet and exercise regularly but don’t seem to lose weight, then the air in your home could be making it harder for you.

The particulates from cooking with oil can settle on surfaces throughout your kitchen or near where food is stored, which means they’re constantly inhaled when preparing meals.

    In addition…

Indoor pollution particles are often more concentrated than those outside.

This is because of weather patterns that filter out pollutants before reaching your house, which ultimately leads to an increased chance of obesity over time if not corrected by using an air purifier.

    Increases Your Life Expectancy

The quality of the air I breathe can significantly affect my health, and studies show that people who live in areas with cleaner indoor air have higher self-esteem and social support than those without an indoor filter.

According to the National Institute of Health’s study about mortality risks from fine particulates, living in a polluted area increases your risk for premature death by 13%8.

    Keeps Your Pet Healthy

Dust mites9 are microscopic allergens that thrive around bedding material such as blankets or pillows, where they feed on skin cells.

While they’re harmless enough when sleeping during the night, these dust particles can easily become airborne again during the day, which means they’re constantly getting into your pet’s lungs.

An indoor air purifier can help reduce these dust mites and other allergens in your home so you won’t have to be concerned about their health, or if you decide to take them out on walks, then it will make sure that there are fewer pollutants for them to inhale when outdoors.

  • Are You a Pet Owner & Thinking About Using an Air Purifier?

Are You a Pet Owner & Thinking About Using an Air Purifier?

    [FEATURE_IMAGE_INSERT]

Living with pets is often an important experience for many people, as my four-legged friends make life more enjoyable.

The excitement and companionship that pets offer to one’s daily life are beyond rewarding.

Though less favorable side effects of housing a pet, like odors and pet dander, make owners question how to address these compromising factors.

Have you ever considered investing in an air purifier to combat these pet-related problems?

Choosing an Air Purifier as a Pet Owner can tackle odors and dander in the air while also providing further health benefits through better indoor air quality (IAQ).

    But where to start?

Choosing an air purifier as a pet owner comes down to the features and performance of each system, as certain elements are more essential than others.

Find out more about what specific attributes to look for when deciding on your air purifier, especially from a pet-centric mindset. Our reviews have everything you need to know.

Can an Air Purifier Help with Pet Allergies?

Yes, air purifiers are very capable of alleviating causes of allergies triggered by pets, like hair and dander.

Efficient filtration can capture hairs and dander that exist in the air to promote an allergen-free zone.

This allows for pet owners to live more comfortability with less allergy symptoms while still being able to enjoy the presence of their animal.

It also lowers the level of particulate matter in the air, leaving your indoor air feeling fresher and cleaner.

Features to Look for in an Air Purifier

The basic functions of an air purifier consist of removing particulate matter from the air of a designated space through a filtration system, releasing fresher, cleaner air back into the environment as a result.

A great example of an air purifier with efficient filtration and exchange rate is EnviroKlenz’s® Air System Plus, which combines its patented air cartridge with HEPA filtration and additional UV-C protection for thorough purification.

The Air System Plus is able to cover a 1,000 cubic foot area with an exchange rate of more than two times the efficiency of a standard HVAC system.

EnviroKlenz’s earth mineral technology found in their air cartridge adds the additional benefit of non-toxic air purification that releases nothing back into the air.

It is safe to use around pets and other family members, unlike carbon filtration that commonly releases toxic pathogens back into the environment.

Eliminating Pet Odors through Air Purification

Addressing pet odors in the home is crucial to any owner, making air purifiers so desirable due to their ability to resolve this smelly issue.

By turning over the air in a room quicker and more frequently than an HVAC system, air purifiers can tackle the odors from your pets that can’t be treated with simple air fresheners or room sprays.

Not only does this odor elimination offer comfort to your household, but it also combats the potential issue of guests noticing pet odors when you are hosting for others.

Lingering pet odors can include litter boxes, open pet food, pet bedding, and the pets themselves, alongside unexpected smells like potty-training accidents in the house.

While cats and dogs can’t necessarily control these factors, why not let the power of an air purifier help with these odor concerns.

Further Benefits of Proper Indoor Air Quality

The benefits of adding an air purifier to your home don’t stop at the removal of pet odors and hair, as its positive impacts stretch much further than that.

If pets don’t trigger your allergies, but dust and other particulates do, air purifiers can address these triggers just as efficiently.

Irritants stemming from outside sources like pollen, wildfires, and other air pollutants that find their way indoors can also be mitigated by a purification system for relief within your home.

The concern of fighting germs and viruses can also be treated through the capabilities of an air purifier.

Capturing and removing harmful viricidal and bacterial pathogens is achieved through filtration, but this can be further enhanced by combining filtration abilities with UV-C lights.

EnviroKlenz® utilizes the germicidal defense of UV-C bulbs in their Air System Plus to further deactivate viruses and bacteria and prevent infectious spread.

Air purifiers with this combination of filtration and UV-C can provide an even higher barrier to airborne health threats.

Air purifiers can cater to many IAQ needs, though in the eyes of a pet owner, they can look particularly valuable.

After seeing how certain features and benefits can combat typical conditions of living with pets, such as associated odors, hair, and dander.

Pet owners can use this knowledge as a guide for choosing an air purifier for their home.

This investment will create a fresher, healthier home for all human and furry family members alike!

The importance of clean air is something that the medical community has well understood for decades.

Cleaner air means cleaner lungs, and cleaner lungs mean better health outcomes and a happier life.

But what about viruses? Did You know that you can fight viruses with an air purifier?

Air purifiers can also help fight against viruses in your home or office with their efficient filtering systems.

Let’s take a deeper look into the world of air purifiers for some astonishing facts on viruses vs. air purifiers…

    Why Does Air Quality Matter?

The first thing to understand is the importance of air quality1.

The World Health Organization reports that almost 7 million people die every year from diseases associated with indoor and outdoor air pollution2.

This means it’s vital to maintain clean living spaces to keep these pollutants out.

Modern air purifiers operate by filtering particles like dust, smoke, pet dander, and pollen before release into your home or office space.

So they’re an ideal solution for those looking for a healthier environment as they remove these particles.

Reading purifier reviews will help shed some light on this.

    COVID-19 Airborne Transmission

I was made to believe that COVID-19 can only be transmitted through close person-to-person contact with saliva or respiratory droplets.

But many experts think that these aren’t the only modes of transmission.

    Get this…

239 scientists wrote an open letter to the World Health Organization (WHO), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and other health agencies regarding the spread of the coronavirus.

The letter suggested that an infected person can produce aerosolized micro droplets that spray from the mouth and float into the air.3

In a CNN interview, Donald Milton, a professor of environmental health at the University of Maryland, said, “They don’t want to talk about airborne transmission because that is going to make people afraid.”

This is exactly why wearing a mask is very important when controlling the spread of not only COVID-19 but also the common flu and some respiratory diseases.

    Choose the Right Air Purifier

HEPA Filtration Is Effective but Not Quite

The Governor of New York City, Andrew Cuomo, advocated the use of high-efficiency air filtration systems in malls to trap the COVID-19 virus.

    Still, the question lingers…

Is it possible to capture the virus through the use of an air purifier?

Various air purifiers on the market are equipped with a HEPA filter.

This filter effectively removes at least 99% of dust, pollen, mold, bacteria, and any airborne particles that are 0.3 microns in size.

Some HEPA filters trap ultrafine particles as small as 0.01 microns.

High-end HEPA Air Purifiers can eliminate particulates 0.01 microns in size by using a patented air purifier technology called Photocatalytic Oxidation or PCO.

This method uses a catalyst, germicidal UV light, and other advanced components to effectively kill airborne viruses and bacteria.

The coronavirus is approximately 0.125 microns in diameter which are up in the alley of particle sizes that a highly efficient HEPA filter can capture.

    Stop…

Before you storm out and buy one, remember that an air purifier shouldn’t be considered the first line of defense against the COVID-19 virus.

As of June 2021, the CDC said, “COVID-19 is thought to spread mainly through close contact from person-to-person,” through “respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks.”4

So, wearing face masks is still king!

    Air Quality Matters

    How Air Purifiers Fight Viruses

Air purification systems filter out particles that cause many health problems, so it’s no surprise that they can help with viruses too.

An air purifier is an effective way of killing airborne pathogens like the flu virus or a cold virus and bacteria and mold spores, which can lead to respiratory illnesses.

    Here’s the deal…

An air cleaner removes 99.95% of the particulate matter from your air, and a HEPA filter can remove 98% of airborne particles like pet dander or pollen that might trigger allergies5.

The filters also release negative ions, which produce positive health effects for those in the surrounding space.

Air purifiers filter out pollutants and contaminants so you can enjoy the benefits of clean air.

Clean and fresh air offers various benefits like strengthening your immune system and improving sleep quality.

    Benefits of Air Purifiers

The benefits of air purifiers include:

    • Cleaner air.
    • Improved lung function and respiratory health.
    • A reduction in allergies caused by pet dander, smoke, or other particles.
    • A reduction in infectious disease.
    • A healthier environment for your family or roommates.
    • Improved air quality inside and out.
    • Air purifiers are great for achieving a healthy home environment for all those living there.
    • They’re very efficient, which means they save energy too.

How Do Air Purifier Filters Work?

The filter works by trapping the particles and releasing clean air.

The filters remove almost 100% of airborne mold, bacteria, fungi, pet dander, and smoke particles as small as 0.12 microns in size.

The Activated Carbon Filter (ACF)6 is a common type in most HEPA filter systems today.

This ACF eliminates organic gases, such as formaldehyde, from the environment.

    Keep in mind…

These types of gas can cause eye irritation or aggravate allergies like asthma because they irritate tissues inside your nose and throat.

The ACF also removes odors from the air caused by cooking, pets, or cigarette smoke.

The particles in these smells range from 0.12 microns to 50 microns, so they would be removed much more quickly than those at .2 micron size.

Last, Activated Carbon Filters remove chemicals such as benzene, a known carcinogen found in many household items like detergents and cleaners.

These substances can affect your immune system7 over time if you’re exposed to them regularly.

How to Use Your Air Purifier to Fight Viruses

Air purifiers are an efficient and effective way of fighting against viruses, but it’s important to understand how they work best.

For example, HEPA filters must be replaced every 12-18 months for them to continue working at peak efficiency, which might not seem like a lot until you realize some models require filter replacement after just 6 months.

Air cleaners should be cleaned regularly with the help of a clean cloth or vacuum cleaner attachment.

This helps remove any dust build-up from furniture around your home or office space and prevents allergy triggers before they happen.

What Air Purifier Features Should You Look For When Purchasing?

The 4 key features you should look for in an air purifier are:

    • HEPA filter.
    • Electronic controls.
    • Ionizer8, is only necessary if allergies or asthma are present.
    • Long filter life for the best quality of air.

In order to provide the best quality of air, it’s necessary for your home or office space to have an air purifier that has a HEPA filter.

This will eliminate up to 99% of airborne particles such as mold and pet dander that can trigger allergies or asthma symptoms9.

    However

You should also look for features like electronic controls with auto-timer shut-offs if you want something more heavy-duty than a portable device.

Last, keep in mind how often each type of filter needs replacing when purchasing your new unit, so you know what kind is right for you.

If allergens are a big concern in your area, then choose an ACF model that removes both organic gases and odors from the environment.
